Lenka Přečková's Paper on the Impact of the Pandemic on Insurance Companies

Lenka Přečková from the Department of Finance and Accounting has co-authored an article with Eva Vávrová from Masaryk University titled "Evaluation of the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Financial Health of Commercial Insurance Companies in the Czech Republic", published in the international academic journal Research Papers in Economics and Finance.

Short-Term Research Stay of Dr. Nocoń at the Department

Dr. Aleksandra Nocoń, PhD, from the Department of Banking and Financial Markets at the University of Economics in Katowice, Poland, recently completed a productive short-term research stay at the Department of Finance and Accounting from November 15 to 23, 2024. The visit involved engaging with both institutions’ academic and research framework, exchanging knowledge on banking, monetary policy, and sustainable development, and presenting a seminar on "Interest Rate Policy Normalization: Premises, Scenarios, and Mechanisms."

Irena Szarowská at the MIRDEC conference in Barcelona

On 29 and 30 October 2024, the 23rd International Scientific Conference MIRDEC was held in Barcelona, Spain. Irena Szarowska presented her paper "The Impact of External Shocks on Fiscal Rule Compliance and Discipline in Old and New EU Member States" in the opening keynote session. The paper examines the impact of external shocks (the financial crisis, the COVID pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the energy and inflation crises) on fiscal rule compliance (debt, deficit, expenditure and structural balance rules) in 17 old and 10 new EU Member States and identifies the reasons for differences in fiscal discipline between the two groups and individual countries.

A new book on the development of the Czech economy

The renowned international publishing house Emerald Publishing has published the book "Modeling Economic Growth in Contemporary Czechia". The editors and co-authors of this unique publication are prof. Daniel Stavárek and doc. Michal Tvrdoň from the School of Business Administration. The book is divided into four parts. It deals in detail with various aspects of the Czech economy - from the dynamics of economic development and the setting of economic policy, through the functioning of markets, to an analysis of the contribution of individual industrial sectors to economic growth. This structure allows the reader to gain a comprehensive view of how the Czech economy is developing and what influences its development.

Partnership with the CNB confirmed by the signing of a memorandum

There has been a long-standing cooperation between our faculty and the Czech National Bank. CNB experts are regular guests in classes or speakers at conferences organized by our faculty. There is also a long tradition of a successful national competition for high school students on financial literacy issues, organised by the Department of Finance and Accounting in cooperation with the CNB.

We try to lend a helping hand, for example, by providing material assistance, but we also try to be a support to students and academic staff coming from Ukraine and their families.

The 19th International Conference on Finance and Banking was held at our faculty on 18 and 19 October 2023. This international conference is one of the longest-established finance conferences in the area of Central and Eastern Europe. As always, it provides an opportunity to bring together academics and practitioners to discuss various aspects of finance and banking.
