Ilja Skaunic (1956) získal titul Ing. v roce 1979, v roce 1990 ukončil postgraduální studium na Vysoké škole ekonomické v Praze, v roce 2002 získal titul MBA na Ekonomické fakultě VŠB – TU Ostrava (program byl zajištěn ve spolupráci s Liverpool John Moores University) a v roce 2007 získal na Ekonomické fakultě VŠB – TU Ostrava doktorský titul Ph.D. v oboru Podniková ekonomika a management.

Do roku 2022 působil 42 let v bankovnictví, kde zastával řadu manažerských pozic. Od roku 1997 až do odchodu do důchodu byl ředitelem pobočky České národní banky v Ostravě.

Na Obchodně podnikatelské fakultě v Karviné působil krátkodobě již v letech 1992 – 1993, od roku 2002 je odborným asistentem katedry financí (později katedry financí a účetnictví). Vyučuje předmět Platební a zúčtovací styk, jeho akademická a výzkumná činnost se zaměřuje na platební styk ve všech jeho formách a souvislostech.

Má velké zkušenosti s fungováním systému vysokého školství, v průběhu let byl členem vědeckých rad Slezské univerzity i její Obchodně podnikatelské fakulty, řadu let byl členem a poté předsedou Správní rady Ostravské univerzity.

Ilja Skaunic (1956) obtained his Ing. degree in 1979, completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Economics in Prague in 1990, obtained his MBA degree at the Faculty of Economics of VŠB - TU Ostrava in 2002 (the programme was provided in cooperation with Liverpool John Moores University) and in 2007 obtained his Ph.D. in Business Economics and Management at the Faculty of Economics of VŠB - TU Ostrava.

Until 2022, he worked for 42 years in the banking industry, where he held a number of managerial positions. From 1997 until his retirement he was the director of the Czech National Bank's branch in Ostrava.

He worked briefly at the School of Business Administration in Karviná from 1992 to 1993, and since 2002 he has been an assistant professor at the Department of Finance (later the Department of Finance and Accounting). He teaches the subject of Payment and Settlement Relations, and his academic and research activities focus on payment relations in all their forms and contexts.

He has extensive experience in the functioning of the higher education system, over the years he has been a member of the scientific councils of the Silesian University and its School of Business and Administration, and for many years he was a member and then chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Ostrava.
