Assoc. Prof. Tomáš Gongol became the Rector of Silesian University after his appointment by the President of the Czech Republic on 1 March this year. He has been working at the Silesian University in Opava since 2004. Before he was elected by the University Academic Senate as a candidate for the post of Rector, he served as Vice-Rector for Strategy and Communication. He will take the inauguration oath together with the second elected Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Science in Opava, Prof. Irena Korbelářová, and the newly elected Dean of the School of Business Administration in Karviná, Assoc. Prof. Roman Šperka. The ceremonial act of induction, taking of academic oaths and receiving the insignia of the rector and deans will take place in the monumental premises of the Gothic Church of St. Wenceslas on Pekařská Street in Opava on Tuesday 16 May at 1 pm.

In connection with this solemn act, classes will be cancelled for this day in both cities, Opava and Karviná.  The inauguration will be followed by a concert by the band Nerez with Lucie Šoralová for all guests and the academic community. All members of the academic community, including students and staff of our university are cordially invited!
