The purpose of the preventive and follow-up interventions, whether they are individual or group-based, is to assist the students of Silesian University in achieving academic success. The interventions aim to prevent academic failure, enhance access to education, eliminate potential barriers, particularly for disadvantaged students, and ultimately support a positive graduation rate.

Interventions to support learning techniques:

  • functional diagnostics aimed at evaluating the risks of potential academic failure,
  • consultation and support for self-study,
  • counselling (preventive x follow-up, individual x group), based on the principle of respecting the unique needs of the student,
  • the present use of compensatory aids,
  • contractual borrowing of compensatory aids,
  • technical and technological facilities (printer, scanner, free internet connection, unique hardware and software),
  • the possibility of using the digital library of study materials,
  • the possibility of using the repository of study materials in the Information System of the Silesian University,
  • the possibility of working in study groups
  • assistance with self-study (help in specific situations),
  • therapeutic work focusing on the development of impaired functions and abilities
  • support seminars and workshops
  • and others

Support for target groups:

As part of the training of teaching techniques, it is possible to collaborate with the student before the start of the study itself to define potential weaknesses early and support the student's academic success with special techniques.

Interventions to promote academic success:

The interventions aim to eliminate undesirable phenomena and promote skills leading to enhanced academic success. Interventions are primarily aimed at:

  • reading comprehension,
  • writing extensive, coherent texts,
  • planning and scheduling of study and leisure time - self-management and discipline (setting priorities),
  • estimation of your abilities,
  • spatial imagination,
  • accuracy of expression - use of technical terms,
  • and others

The services of the Advisory Center Study Room are available by appointment from Monday to Friday. These appointments can be made via phone or email and will take place at the Advisory Center, located at 625/25 Olbrichova Street. The Advisory Center is accessible by lift from the backyard and is located on the first floor.
