New international students got to know the faculty virtually this year.
The aim of the Welcome Days (hereinafter "WD") is to welcome new international students before the beginning of each semester, to acquaint them with the town of Karviná, the faculty environment, information systems and to enroll them in their studies. The WD traditionally includes joint trips to the surroundings, which, however, had to be canceled this year due to the unfavorable development of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even so, we found one undeniable advantage in the virtual form of the WD. For the first time ever, all international students were able to take part in the event, regardless of whether they have already obtained a visa or are currently in compulsory self-isolation upon arrival. A total of 13 new exchange and degree students from Turkey, India, Bangladesh, China and one student directly from the Czech Republic joined the meetings, which took place on February 17-19.

The first meeting with student buddies and coordinators of the International Relations Office took place on Wednesday. The new students received useful pre-arrival information including instructions on current anti-epidemic measures. On Thursday, students visited the faculty, dormitories and library thanks to the newly created 3D tours. They also peeked into the Business Gate center and learned how to work with university information systems. On Friday, a tour of Karviná and a final quiz were on the agenda. Ayub achieved the most points (4527!) in the quiz. Congratulations!

In conclusion, we would like to thank our alumnus Benoy for accommodating our student Ayub, who arrived in Prague late in the evening and could not stay anywhere else (due to government measures) before traveling to Karviná.
