The ITIC (International Teacher Identity Card) is the only internationally recognized document for the teaching profession. The card is issued by the ISIC Association worldwide under the auspices of UNESCO.
It serves as an identity card and proof of academic staff status at the Silesian University in Opava. It is recognized in the Czech Republic and abroad and entitles holders to discounts within the international network of ISIC contractual partners.
The condition for obtaining (and maintaining validity) of the ITIC card is employment as a teacher or academic staff member for a minimum of one academic year, at least on a half-time basis. Non-teaching staff are not entitled to an ITIC card.

You can also use the ITIC card in its digital version through the Alive App mobile application. In the app, you will find a list of ISIC contractual partners where you can enjoy discounts visible also as points on the map of the nearest surroundings. The digital ITIC card activated in the Alive App allows you to enjoy discounts just like its plastic version. Additionally, the application provides information about the validity period of the license. However, for proving identity and access via readers on university premises, the plastic version of the card is currently necessary.
Activation of the ITIC card in the Alive App
- The card can be activated in the app after its plastic version has been produced, which is
- either ready for pickup at the distribution point or
- has already been picked up and is in circulation.
- Download the Alive App.
- Enter the license number assigned to your ITIC card in the app, which you can find
- after logging into the karty.slu.cz portal in the "My Card" or "Moje karta" section, or
- on your plastic card as the ITIC card number.
Validity of the ITIC card
- Electronic validity in Silesian University systems:
- The ITIC card is electronically valid for the entire duration of employment as a teacher or academic staff member. During this period, the holder's identity and employment status can be confirmed by presenting the card to an electronic reader. Additionally, the ITIC card can be used for purposes described in the The usage of your ID card section.
- Visual validity of the ITIC card
- Visual validity serves to verify the card's validity in situations where an electronic reader is not available. This validity period is indicated on the plastic card or revalidation sticker.
- The period of visual validity of the ITIC card is limited to a maximum of 16 months, starting no earlier than September 1st and ending on December 31st of the following calendar year.
- A staff member of the card center at one of the distribution points can extend the visual validity of the ITIC card by affixing an ITIC revalidation sticker. The issuance of the revalidation sticker is subject to payment of a validation fee (see ITIC license validity below).
- ITIC License Validity
- A valid license is necessary to avail benefits and discounts associated with the ITIC card at ISIC contractual partners.
- The basic validity of the license is indicated on the plastic version of the card as Validity, while the renewed validity of the license is indicated in the Alive App and, in the case of the plastic card, on the ITIC revalidation sticker.
- The validity of the license can be renewed annually for the duration of employment as a teacher or academic staff member by paying the revalidation fee. The process of renewing validity (revalidation) is described in the section "Validity Extension".
- Renewal of the validity of the license for the digital version of your ITIC card in the Alive App will occur automatically once the payment is received into the university's account (usually within 2 days of payment).
- The renewal of the visual validity of the license for the plastic version of the ITIC card will be done by a staff member of the card center at one of the distribution points by affixing an ITIC revalidation sticker to the back of the card. The issuance of the revalidation sticker is subject to payment of a validation fee.
- Please note that the validity of the ITIC card expires on the day of termination of employment as a teacher or academic staff member, regardless of the payment of the license or revalidation fee for the respective period!
