Habilitation procedure

regulates Section 71 and 72 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Other Acts (Act on Higher Education).

In the habilitation procedure, the applicant's scientific or artistic qualification is verified, especially on the basis of the habilitation thesis and its defense and other scientific, professional or artistic works, and his pedagogical competence based on the evaluation of the habilitation lecture and previous teaching experience.

The academic title "docent" (Associate Professor) for a certain specialization is appointed by the rector following the result of the habilitation procedure.

Professor appointment procedure

regulates Section 73 and 74 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Other Acts (Act on Higher Education).

In the professor appointment procedure the pedagogical and scientific or artistic qualifications of the applicant, who is an outstanding and recognized scientific or artistic personality in his field, are proven. The prerequisite for starting the procedure is the previous appointment as associate professor on the basis of the habilitation procedure, if it included the submission of a habilitation thesis. In exceptional cases, when someone, who is already a professor at a renowned university abroad, is proposed for the position of professor, the rector, on the proposal of the scientific or artistic council of the university, may waive the previous appointment as associate professor as a prerequisite for starting the procedure for appointment as professor.

A professor for a certain specialization is appointed by the President of the Republic on the proposal of the university's scientific or artistic council.
