Branch profile

The study program of pedagogical-psychological subjects consists of the subjects providing future teachers, current students of teacher combinations, with basic knowledge both in pedagogical and in psychological line. The goal of the studies of the pedagogical-psychological bloc of subjects is to increase the students’ preparedness for practice of teaching profession in the pedagogical, psychological and practical-didactic area; therefore the individual disciplines of the bloc are interconnected in all lines.

Graduate’s profile

The graduate will acquire professional competences (knowledge, skills, experience) enabling qualified practice of teaching profession at secondary schools (and, in compliance with Act on pedagogical workers, the graduate is awarded not only the professional qualification of secondary-school teacher but also the qualification of teacher for higher elementary school).

The goal is to provide the students with knowledge from the area of pedagogy and psychology, indispensable for direct pedagogical work; an important part of the branch consists also in didactic preparation indispensable for practice of the secondary-school teacher’s profession. The graduation from the subsequent studies will increase the students’ preparedness for practice of teaching profession in the pedagogical, psychological and practical-didactic area; the individual disciplines of the bloc are interconnected in all lines.

The graduates have at the same time good grasp of the main development trends in education, of the issue of alternative education concepts and innovative approaches, of the area of educational policy and school legislation. They are able to create favourable conditions for learning, to motivate and activate the students, to create positive emotional and social climate in the class. They are able to maintain high-quality partner communication not only with them but also with the parents, colleagues and other social partners of the school; they are able to cooperate in seeking adequate ways and strategies for the development of the student and of the school as a whole. They are also fitted with basic knowledge from the area of inclusive education in which they can engage in their practice. They are able to reflect their own teaching activities, to present, explain, argue for their teaching concept.

The graduates from the studies of the pedagogical-psychological bloc will acquire the following competences:

  • expert subject competences,
  • psychological competences allowing the graduates understand better and approach better the individuality of each pupil,
  • pedagogical-didactic-psychological competences allowing the teachers transforming the scientific knowledge into pedagogical practice,
  • communicative, managing, consulting, advisory competences, reflection of own pedagogical activities, and others.

The graduates can apply the acquired pedagogical, psychological and didactic knowledge and skills not only as teachers at secondary schools but also in other professions, e.g. as pedagogical workers in leisure time institutions, educational agencies, in some selected professional institutions like consulting centres, etc.
