PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND SOCIAL POLICY

Master’s programme, full-time and part-time study

The goal of the subsequent Master study program is to prepare university-educated professionals specialized in professions of social work and public administration with broader theoretical and practical range of knowledge who can find employment as managers of social policy organizations and public administration institutions, can work in analysis, planning and implementation of social concepts and programs, in evaluation of impacts of social changes, social policy and public administration or in specialized roles in the area of regional policy, and in private sphere at local level. Therefore emphasis is put on interdisciplinary concept of specific issues and problems of social policy, public administration and social work at the above stated levels in broader social and political context. The graduates will show their academic competence by independent processing of a selected specialized topic in the Thesis.

The graduate from Master branch of studies of Public Administration and Social policy will acquire capability for practice of qualified professions of social activities both at middle level and at macro-level in institutions of self-government, state administration, non-profit organizations, in organizations of social policy and social work, as well as for direction of social work and public administration, i.e. of social workers, public administration workers or teams of specialists providing subjects, families, groups or communities with assistance to alleviate or solve their social situation.

The study is specifically focused on mediation of information to prevent social exclusion and to integrate disadvantaged and vulnerable population groups into the society. The contents orientation of the branch creates preconditions for methodological, conceptual and analytical managing work of the graduates, including the necessary foreign language preparation and practical training for the Thesis; it also develops adequate level of computer literacy and of skills of using information and communication technologies influencing the creation and direction of activities in social sphere and social administration. The students’ specialization on a specific orientation is allowed by use of modular teaching and by a system of compulsory and optional subjects.

The graduation from the subsequent Master study entitles the student to use the title of Master.


The graduate will be able to
  • to contribute to the coordination of social policy concerning the issues of social exclusion and social inclusion
  • to actively participate in public administration in the context of current laws and regulations in social work and in the implementation of social policy
  • as part of their qualification to focus on developing skills to manage working teams


Study subjects
  • economics and social security administration, financial management in local government
  • Law concerning municipalities and regions in the Czech Republic, public administration in Central Europe, Internet Law and E-government
  • Management in public administration and social services
  • Counselling in social work, communication with persons with disabilities
  • Social exclusion theory and social inclusion policy


 Vocational instruction
  • Two compulsory subjects of professional work experience with supervised seminars under the leadership of a supervisor in the total scope of 240 hours, one half takes place in the field of public administration, the other in social policy and social work
  • Students can gain practical work experience for example in bodies of local government units, in the Czech Social Security Administration, the Czech Geodesic and Cadastral Office, regional branches of the Labor Office, in social care services, in facilities providing professional social counselling, in the bodies of socio-legal child protection, in Probation and Mediation Service

 

Labour-Market Employment
  • Public administration, administrative bodies, central administrative offices e.g. the Tax Office, workplaces of the Labour Office, in security forces, in social security authorities, supervisory bodies, organizational government bodies
  • Local self-government in the field of administrative activities, e.g. the departments of education, social affairs, culture, the environment, and territorial planning, as well as in various committees (infractions, protection of children's rights, public order, social, and other),
  • Organizational sub-units of local governmental units
  • Political sphere, e.g. as an assistant to a public official
  • Activities in the field of social services.
