University of Physical Education in Krakow (Poland)


University of Physical Education in Krakow (AWF) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the city of Krakow, Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The university established in 1950 has been operating continuously to the present and is officially accredited and recognized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Poland (Ministerstwo Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyzszego w Polsce).

The university currently educates about 3,500 students studying in three faculties offering 8 different Masters programs and PhD program. All offered courses and programs are leading to officially recognized higher education degrees: 8 Bachelor degrees, 4 Master degrees and Doctorate degree. The facility currently employs approximately 900 employees, including over 500 under an employment contract.

AWF has a course called „Snoezelen as the occupational therapy method” at the Department of Occupational Therapy for students of different studying programmes (Oupational Therapy, Gerontology, Physiotherapy) with this content: Snoezelen – its origin and essence. Snoezelen – eight methodological principles. Snoezelen – applications to different groups of patients.; Planning a correct Snoezelen Room. Snoezelen Care Plan. Free sessions and structured sessions.

Their research areas and activities concern Snoezelen method, occupational therapy with the aged and with patients with dementia, ethics (including ethics in therapeutic interventions), philosophical anthropology. Currently the team works on the international research project “HOMESIDE: Home-based family caregiver-delivered interventions for people living with dementia: an international randomised controlled trial”, supported by the Joint Programs for Neurodegenerative Diseases (JPND).

University of Lleida (Spain)

The University of Lleida (UdL) originates from the Estudi General de Lleida, a university founded in 1300 with permissions granted by James II of Aragon. The UdL has 7 faculties and schools and has almost 14 thousand students. The UdL offers 38 different bachelor's degrees across 14 fields, ranging from Agriculture & Forestry to Natural Sciences & Mathematics. The field that offers the largest selection of bachelor's programs is the Engineering & Technology programs, which offer seven different bachelor's degrees.

The UdL is a leading institution in Spain for research and education in the fields of Agronomy, Food Technology and Forestry. The university also offers a total of 29 master's programs in 12 fields, with seven master's degrees in their Education&Training program, making it their most diverse field for postgraduate studies.

The UdL is working along these lines by using innovative methodologies and a course structure that is coherent with the parameters of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

The Faculty of Education, Psychology and Social Worker has been coordinating the Snoezelen room of the University of Lleida since its inauguration in 2019. Ramona Ribes is the professor in charge of its operation in conjunction with scholarship staff. They are at the beginning of the project given its innovative character.

The purpose of the faculty room is to train students - degrees of education, social work, social education and psychology - as well as research - final master’s work or doctoral thesis - and provide them as a service to the community. In the first year of operation in the Snoezelen room they have received groups of students from ordinary schools, special education schools, adults with disabilities and the elderly with dementia.

They have formed through ISNA Spain with its president, Maria José Cid and they are doing with her an expert university course in Multisensorial stimulation and Snoezelen for special education teachers.
