Since its establishment, the Silesian Univesity in Opava has a priority aim of establishing the library incorporating the whole university on Hauerova Street. A reconstruction project of creating the library includes also an information centre. On Masarykova Street in Opava, there has been a central library of the Faculty of Philosophy and Science so far. In the same building, one can find German, Austrian and English Libraries. The German one was established in the autumn of 1997 with the help of Hermann Niermann Fund from Düssesldorf. The Austrian one was established thanks to initiative of a former Austrian ambassador in the Czech Republic, dr. Peter Niesner in the autumn of 1993. A wide range of computer facilities and services is provided and maintained at the FPS, including the computer network.
