Course description:

Corpus linguistics ranks among most effective methods for language data processing and interpretation. A successful graduate will be provided with competencies comprising philosophy of the language, corpus building methodology, interpretation of data acquired and creative applications in the following fields:

  • Natural language processing
  • Structure analysis of the language (lexicon, grammar, phonology, pragmatics)
  • Lexicography and translatology
  • Corpus based teaching material.

The programme is carried out in collaboration with Julius –Maxmilians-Universität Wuerzburg (Germany).

 

Profile of the graduate:

The graduates can seek positions of research or teaching staff in the institutions of higher education,  in RD departments, in companies implementing and utilizing modern language technologies. Due to close co-operation with Julius –Maxmilians-Universität Wuerzburg (Germany) graduates will be competent in English and German.

Students will have their own  advisor  with whom an individual study programme will be elaborated. They have to complete all the compulsory courses (credits A)  and at least two optional courses from the application module (credits B).

The doctoral programme is completed by the state PhD examination and defence of the dissertation.
