Thanks to the presence of important groups of humanities and natural sciences (Czech studies, philology, historical sciences, astrophysics, informatics, gastronomy, creative photography, multimedia and audio-visual fields), scientific collaboration across disciplines is enabled, which also makes it possible to experiment with the latest knowledge and establish new contacts abroad.
Individual scientific workplaces have a large range of foreign contacts that enable us to host major world experts and hold international conferences. Most of the conferences are with international participation; therefore, scientists from all over the world come to Opava. The faculty is also involved in organizing cultural and social events for both students and the general public (lectures by experts in the field of historical sciences, workshops focused on gastronomy, theatre and student film festivals, physical lectures or observation of the night sky at the observatory).
In addition to scientific and research workplaces, particular institutes also develop scientific activities where talented students are primarily given space. They are also involved in other activities under the guidance of their teachers, such as grant competitions and projects.
