A written application for recognition of foreign higher education must always be submitted to the Rector's Office of Silesian University in Opava.

The public university charges a fee of CZK 900 for services related to the processing of applications for recognition of foreign higher education and qualifications. The fee is income for the public university and therefore cannot be paid with a revenue stamp. Information on payment of the fee

The following documents must be attached to the application:

  • a notarised copy of the diploma, certificate or similar document issued by a foreign secondary school or university
  • a notarised copy of the transcript of examinations taken or diploma supplement
  • a power of attorney if the applicant is represented by an agent
  • in the event of a change of name of the applicant, an officially certified copy of the document proving this (e.g. marriage certificate)

Documents that are not issued in English or Slovak must be officially translated into Czech or English (by a court interpreter or a Czech diplomatic mission abroad).
The authenticity of signatures and stamps on originals (or notarised copies) of documents must be verified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country in which the foreign school that issued the document is located, or by the relevant foreign authority and the relevant diplomatic mission of the Czech Republic, unless an international treaty provides otherwise.

Recognition of foreign education (general "nostrification")

  • This type of nostrification is intended for all graduates of foreign universities who need recognition of their foreign higher education for purposes other than further study at SUO (e.g., study at another university in the Czech Republic, employment in the Czech Republic, visa requirements, etc.).
  • At the same time, general nostrification can also be used for the purposes of the admission procedure at SUO.

A written application for recognition of foreign higher education must always be submitted to the Rector's Office of Silesian University in Opava.

The deadline for processing the application is set by law ("Administrative Code") at 30 days from receipt; in more complex cases, the deadline for processing the application may be extended to 60 days.

  • Power of attorney, if the applicant is represented by an authorized representative
  • In the event of a change of name of the applicant, an officially certified copy of a document proving this (e.g., marriage certificate)

Documents that are not issued in English or Slovak must be officially translated into Czech or English (by a court interpreter or a Czech diplomatic mission abroad).
All documents must be duly certified in accordance with the relevant international treaties.
