Hosting post-doctoral researchers is an important step in strengthening the research profile of our faculty and enriching academic life at the School of Business Administration in Karviná. Post-docs bring new perspectives, knowledge, and international experiences that contribute to innovative solutions in both research and teaching.
The current post-doc position is funded for two years primarily through the Operational Programme Just Transition, within the project “Vouchery pro univerzity v Moravskoslezském kraji, reg. č. CZ.10.03.01/00/23_042/0000390.” This support makes it possible for our School to attract talented scholars who can contribute to addressing pressing challenges in the field of economics and finance. Following an open international selection process, the post-doc position was awarded to Dr. Shahi Md. Tanvir Alam, who joined the Department of Finance and Accounting in July 2025. His mentor is the Head of the Department Prof. Daniel Stavárek.

Introducing Dr. Tanvir

Dr. Tanvir comes from Bangladesh and brings with him a diverse academic and professional background. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics in 2024 at the University of Szeged, Hungary, supported by the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship. His doctoral research focused on renewable energy auctions, aligning with his long-term interest in promoting affordable green energy solutions.

Before his doctoral studies, Dr. Tanvir completed a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA with a concentration in Human Resource Management at Khulna University, followed by a master’s degree in economics from Jahangirnagar University in Savar, Bangladesh. Professionally, he has accumulated nearly two decades of experience: seven years in a multinational telecommunications company and more than twelve years with the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission.

Alongside his professional career, Dr. Tanvir has actively engaged in academic work. He has published ten peer-reviewed articles, contributed to book chapters, and presented at international conferences. Between 2021 and 2024, he also served as a teaching assistant at the University of Szeged, where he supervised postgraduate theses and taught economics courses.

Research Project: Renewables and Price Stability

Dr. Tanvir’s post-doctoral research project, “Renewables and Price Stability: Unpacking Market Dynamics in the EU Energy Sector,” examines how renewable energy can contribute to more stable electricity prices in Europe. Recent global events, such as the Russia-Ukraine war, have highlighted the importance of energy independence and affordability. With the EU aiming for at least 45% renewable electricity by 2030, his research focuses on the links between renewable energy production, battery manufacturing, economic growth, and carbon dioxide reduction.

In clear terms, the project investigates whether renewable energy—combined with modern energy storage—can make electricity prices less volatile and more predictable. Stable prices are not only good news for households but also for businesses making long-term investments. By studying data from EU countries, Dr. Tanvir will help clarify how renewable energy can support a greener economy while ensuring energy security and affordability.

Importantly, Dr. Tanvir will present the interim results of his research at academic conferences, engaging with the wider scholarly community and inviting feedback. The final outcomes are expected to result in scholarly manuscripts prepared for publication in top-tier international journals, thereby contributing both to the academic debate and to policy-relevant discussions on Europe’s energy future.
