Social
policy and public administration are part of our everyday lives, and this field
responds to that by looking for answers to questions related to the social and
life situations of each of us. In their search for these answers, the Institute
of Public Administration and Social Policy and its academic staff have long
cooperated with state and local government bodies, primarily in the
Moravian-Silesian, South Bohemian and Hradec Králové regions. The most
important cooperating organisations include the Municipal Authority of the
Statutory City of Opava and the Regional Authority of the Moravian-Silesian
Region. In the social sphere, this cooperation is developed both with
professional organisations of social service providers and directly with
individual providers of long-term social and health services. As part of this
cooperation, experts in the field are involved in teaching a few specialised
subjects, while individual students from these institutions gain professional
experience.
The
institute currently offers a bachelor's degree programme in "Social Work
in Public Administration" and a follow-up master's programme in
"Social Policy in Public Administration," both in full-time and
part-time formats. Graduates of both forms of study acquire the knowledge and
skills specified by the Minimum Standard of Education in Social Work, which are
necessary for the qualified performance of social work and further development
of professional competences, in accordance with Act No. 108/2006 Coll., on
social services, as amended, and are thus entitled to pursue the regulated
profession of social worker.
As part of
lifelong learning, the institute currently provides teaching within the
bachelor's course "Social Work in Public Administration" at the
consultation centre in Trutnov and teaching of the follow-up master's course
"Social Policy in Public Administration" at consultation centres in
Tábor and Trutnov.
The Institute’s
scientific, research, and creative activities have long been focused on public
administration, political science, social science, and social work. These
activities are framed by projects and topics that are primarily orientated
toward public administration, especially in the social sphere. Academic staff
examine this area from various angles, with an emphasis on both macroeconomic
contexts and individual regional specifics. Talented students from bachelor's
and master's programmes can also participate in these projects.
In this
area, the institute cooperates primarily with universities that focus on public
administration and social policy. These include, for example, the University of
Trnava in Trnava, the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, and the
P. J. Šafárik University in Košice, the University of Applied Sciences in Harz,
and the Silesian University in Katowice. It also has a cooperation agreement
with the Research Institute for Labour and Social Affairs in Prague.
The
institute's staff present their findings at international, national, and
regional conferences and publish them in specialist monographs, conference
proceedings, and peer-reviewed journals. The institute publishes two
peer-reviewed journals, Central European Papers and Public Administration and
Social Policy, where students can also find a wealth of up-to-date information.
