A Major Milestone: SU Becomes a Candidate Section of ESN

The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is the largest student organization in Europe, operating in over 40 countries.
The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is the largest student organization in Europe, operating in over 40 countries. Its mission is to support international student mobility, help exchange students during their time abroad, and connect them with local communities. ESN works through local sections at universities – and as of June 2025, Silesian University is proudly one of them!

On June 14, 2025, Silesian University in Opava officially became a candidate section of ESN. During the National Assembly Ostrava (ČerNA), where national-level elections took place, all 19 existing ESN Czech Republic sections unanimously voted to welcome us as a new candidate section. This marks a major step forward for our university and our international engagement.

As a candidate section:

  • we are officially part of ESN – we have membership cards, merch, and even our own flag,
  • we can use the ESN logo and participate in both national and international events,
  • while we don’t yet have voting rights, we can already take part in the network’s activities, gain experience, and collaborate with other sections,
  • we can look forward to larger, more professional events – and we’re building our own local board (which you can still join!).
We’re proud that Silesian University in Opava is now an active part of this amazing European network, and we’re excited for what’s ahead. ✨
