The School of Business Administration of Silesian University has strengthened its position on the international stage. As the only representative from the Czech Republic, it actively participated in the annual conference of the prestigious Network of International Business Schools (NIBS), which brings together top business-focused faculties from around the world. The meeting, held in Alabama, USA, provided an opportunity to establish new partnerships, share experiences, and present the faculty’s activities in the areas of internationalization and preparations for international accreditations.

Last year, we proudly announced that our faculty had become an official member of the prestigious international network, the Network of International Business Schools (NIBS). This network brings together more than 70 business-oriented faculties from leading universities across the globe, all united by a commitment to the internationalization of education and collaboration in research, exchange programs, and accreditation. The School of Business Administration in Karviná (SU SBA) is the only representative from the Czech Republic and, along with the Budapest University of Economics and Business (Hungary), the only member from Central and Eastern Europe.

From 21 to 23 May 2025, the NIBS Annual Conference took place at the Sorrell College of Business, Troy University, Alabama, USA, under the theme “Cultivating Global Talent.” Keynote speakers included Dr. Andrew Spicer from the University of South Carolina and Kathryn Hornsby from the Culverhouse College of Business, who focused on the development of global competencies in students and future business leaders. The conference program also featured the award ceremony for student competitions, the presentation of accreditation certificates, and the welcoming of new NIBS members.

Our faculty was represented by Dean Roman Šperka and Vice-Dean for International Relations Jana Šimáková. During the professional program, they presented the faculty’s internationalization initiatives, particularly related to the Economics and Management study program, the STARS EU alliance, and planned steps toward international accreditation. The faculty representatives also actively engaged in discussions on expanding the partner network for student and staff mobility, research stays for PhD students, and concrete steps toward obtaining NIBS accreditation.

Active membership in NIBS strengthens SU SBA’s position within the international academic community and opens up new opportunities for cooperation with foreign universities. We believe that this partnership will offer our students and staff valuable opportunities for professional growth and high-quality international education.
