Administration, bachelor's degree program
The study
programme "Social Work in Public Administration" is one of two study
programmes currently offered by the Institute of Public Administration and
Social Policy, both in full-time and combined form of study. During this study
programme, students acquire the knowledge and skills specified by the Minimum
Standard of Education in Social Work, which are necessary for the qualified
performance of social work and the further development of professional competencies,
according to Act No. 108/2006 Coll. on Social Services, as amended. This
standard entitles them to exercise the regulated profession of a social worker.
As part of
lifelong learning, the Institute also provides teaching of the bachelor’s
course "Social Work in Public Administration" at the Consultation
Centre in Trutnov.
Area of Education
The study
programme is 80 % in the field of social work education and 20 % in the field
of law.
Objectives of the study
programme
The aim of
the bachelor's degree programme is to equip students with the necessary output
competences so that they are responsibly prepared to work in the field of
social work, social policy, and public administration, and whose actions will
be consistent with the ethical principles of social work. Graduates may find
employment as social workers in a variety of governmental and non-profit organisations,
at various levels of public administration, state, and local government. During
their studies, students will acquire the knowledge and skills specified by the
Minimum Standards for Social Work Education that are required and necessary for
qualified performance of social work performance and the further development of
professional competences. In the framework of study, practice plays an
important role, which will be thematically relevant to the focus of the study
programme and reflect the current trends in social policy, social work, or
public administration.
Profile of the graduate of
the study programme
Upon
successful completion of the study programme, the graduate can:
- understand the main ethical approaches, codes,
and human rights documents and principles that are applicable in the helping
professions can apply in professional practice.
- assess the life situation of clients, identify
their needs and design, implement and evaluate helping intervention in
accordance with the ethical requirements for the performance of social work.
- understand basic methods and techniques of
social research and basic statistical methods.
- use the acquired knowledge in the field of
psychology, be able to identify the needs of clients, and plan a procedure to
restore or strengthen their psychosocial functioning.
- use the acquired knowledge in the field of law,
including civil law, and be prepared to defend the interests of clients against
other entities.
- Use the acquired knowledge of the organisation
of public administration and the principles of administrative management when
working with clients.
- use the acquired knowledge of the basic
principles and possibilities of supervision in social work and can use the
support of a supervisor in solving tasks in the field of social work.
- use the acquired knowledge of the organisation
and structure of public administration, administrative activities, and
activities in institutions dealing with social policy for the benefit of the client.
- apply modern principles and methods of
management in the social field and public administration with respect to
respecting legal and ethical standards.
- understand the system of organisation of public
administration and local government in the Czech Republic, have an overview of
the current social network, social services, schools and educational
institutions.
- demonstrate the qualification of a social
worker orientated in the field of social work, public administration, and
administrative management.
- using foreign language resources to acquire
up-to-date knowledge to perform their profession, the graduate understands
lifelong education as an essential part of their profession.
