About the Institute

Working with people is at the heart of what we do – both in preparing professionals for helping professions and in building meaningful relationships with our students. The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences closely cooperates with primary schools and various social service organizations in the Opava region (e.g. the Psychiatric Hospital in Opava, Caritas Opava), where students complete their professional internships.

Our teaching is strongly practice-oriented and closely linked to research and real-world experience. Students are encouraged to participate in research and expert activities, particularly in areas such as risk behavior prevention, education for seniors, and other socially relevant topics. Cooperation with field experts is supported through lecture series and events such as Human Under the Lens of Social Sciences and Perspectives from Practice.

Each year, we host a conference focused on family-related issues and organize round tables to discuss current questions in education and research. Students also have the opportunity to take part in study visits or internships abroad through the Erasmus+ programme.

As part of the university’s third mission, we are actively involved in public events such as the Prevention Days or the European Researchers’ Night.

Study Programme

We offer a professionally oriented Bachelor’s degree programme in Social Pathology and Prevention, available in both full-time and part-time study modes.
