The Department of Business Economics and Management consists of a team of twenty academics and six internal Ph.D. students, their composition corresponds to the needs of a qualification structure and professional orientation reflecting the current needs of the market. The staff is involved in the realization of scientific research activities, professional publishing in impacted, reviewed journals, and regularly present their outputs at international and domestic scientific conferences and participate in the elaboration of monographs, university textbooks, and instructional texts. The Department develops cooperation with foreign and domestic universities in the field of research activities, it also participates and cooperates with entrepreneurial subjects whose outputs are then visible in a practical application through Bachelor’s and diploma theses.
The wide range of courses offered in English is focused on business economics, management, personnel management, project management, transport and distribution logistics, marketing and business law, business information support and setting up a business and investment. The lectured courses respect the complex system related to the issue from the point of view of information, applicability, decision-making, and function. The variation of the courses has been established with a view to acquiring the necessary amount of knowledge and factual knowledge usable in the managerial positions of graduates of middle and senior management of future employers as well as in the management of own business activities in private business.
The Department of Business Economics and Management was established at the School of Business Administration in Karviná in 2014 and profiled from the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, the Department of Logistics, the Department of Marketing and the Department of Law. The current form of the Department of Business Economics and Management is the cornerstone of the Faculty guaranteeing the Bachelor's and Master's degree program in Economics and Management with the field of study in Business Economics and Management, and professionally oriented study programs Marketing and Management in Social Services. Bachelor's field of study in Business Economics and Management can be studied in three specializations: Marketing and Trade, Entrepreneurship, and Hotel Management. The follow-up field of study in Business Economics and Management can be studied in four specializations: Business Finance, Marketing and Trade, Entrepreneurship and Accounting and Taxation. Since September 2016, it has also been in the follow-up field of study in Business Economics and Management in Marketing and Trade (Master In Business
). The Department of Business Economics and Management has a significant role in teaching in the Doctoral degree program in Business Economics and Management. In cooperation with the Department of Informatics and Mathematics, the Department of Business Economics and Management organizes international scientific conference Decision Making for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (DEMSME
