EU citizens

EU citizens (as well as citizens of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) - have a European Health Insurance Card, and are entitled to use it for urgent health care free of charge. It is highly recommended to have a supplementary travel health insurance (conclude a contract in your home country before arrival to Karviná).


Non-EU citizens

Non-EU citizens, staying in Czechia longer than 3 months, must contract an insurance with an insurance company, which is licensed to operate the insurance in the territory of Czechia according to a special legal regulation.

Covid-19: In accordance with the Ministry of Health Protective Measure, non-EU students arriving in Czechia after July 1, 2020 are obliged to arrange a sufficient health insurance covering medical care related to Covid-19 disease prior to their arrival.

Covid-19 vaccine

Foreigners who have a long term residence in Czechia for more than 90 days pursuant to the Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals and who are not insured within the public health insurance system of Czechia or another EU-member state can be vaccinated in Czechia by COMIRNATY vaccine (manufactured by Pfizer/BioNTech) provided that they:

  • have a valid long-term or permanent residency permit in Czechia,
  • hold a valid long-term visa,
  • are EU citizens with confirmation of temporary residency or a permanent residency permit in Czechia,
  • are family members of EU citizens with confirmation of temporary residency or a permanent residency permit in Czechia.
