We have hosted our second International Week on 8th-12th April at SU SBA.

During the second week of April, SBA hosted the second round of the International Week event aimed to gather the teachers and staff from partner universities from all around the world, involved in many aspects of international relations and exchange programs. The main goal was to develop collaboration networks and to share best practices with and among our partners. An exclusive part of this year’s round was a special stream organized under the Erasmus+ “Entrepreneurship and Communication in Multicultural Teams – ECMT+” project and its Teacher Workshop. A total of 45 international participants from 11 different countries (Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, France, Finland, China, the UK, and the Netherlands) took part in this event together with 25 participants from Czechia. International teachers delivered 8 intensive 3-day lectures taught in English on economic, financial, marketing and other business related topics. Almost 60 students from SU SBA including international students attended the lectures within the course “International Business Case Studies”. Yi Zhang and Jie Cui from Shanxi University of Finance and Economics, China, delivered lectures about the Chinese Economy. Grazyna Karmowska from the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, Poland, talked about "Analysing the Potentials of a Region". Bertus Botter from Saxion University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands, explained "Marketing and Communication". For a complete list of lecturers and lectures, please visit the link below.

ECMT+ Entrepreneurship and Communication in Multicultural Teams is an Erasmus+ strategic partnership project. In ECMT+ 7 higher education institutions from 7 different European countries work together for developing students´ entrepreneurial mind-set, practices, and multicultural communication skills.  The project consortium contains: Finnish Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Belgian Katholieke Hogeschool Vives, Scottish University of Western Scotland, Polish Poznan Technical University, German Technische Hochschule Wildau, French Université Jean Monnet, and our Czech Silesian University, School of Business Administration in Karviná. We sincerely hope that our cooperation will continue in a future project.

The third teacher training event by ECMT+ included many participants. The keynote talk “Moravian-Silesian Region – an Emerging Start-up Region“ was delivered by Adéla Hradilová from the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre. We had the pleasure to report about our project in the workshop “Exemplification of the Multicultural and Practical Approach to Teaching Entrepreneurship” by Ewa Badzińska from Poznan University of Technology, Poland, or in the workshop “Intensive Programmes in 2017 and 2018 in Self-reflective Diaries as well as Post-Implementation Feedback” by Krystyna Heinz and Martina Chylková from SBA Karviná, Czech Republic. We also had the opportunity to discuss other approaches to entrepreneurial education in the workshop “Development of Entrepreneurial Thinking and Cross-generational Entrepreneurship” by Marian Holienka from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. For the complete list of workshops, please visit the link below.

A vital part of the event was the cultural program which included trips to the surroundings and gala dinners. The IW took off with the Monday’s excursion to Marlenka factory in Frýdek-Místek and to the historical part of Polish Cieszyn. For some foreign participants, the passage across the river Olše and thus into another country was an unusual experience. On Tuesday the vice-dean for the Foreign Affairs of SU SBA, doc. RNDr. Ing. Roman Šperka, Ph.D. had an opening speech followed by the introduction of SU SBA held by the dean prof. Ing. Daniel Stavárek, Ph.D. In the afternoon, the participants had a chance to visit Chateau Fryštát and the nearby church. On Wednesday there was a trip to the leaning Church of St Peter of Alcantara or so-called “Czech Pisa” and to the planetarium in Ostrava. On Thursday, the participants had an opportunity to visit Business Gate, which is a multifunctional co-working center aimed to connect the students with the real business environment. Business Gate provides services in three main areas, experience for students and new ideas for companies (Academy), support, advice, and help for go-getters (Benefit), pleasant working space for everyone (Coworking). It also provides interesting events and workshops for the public. Hub is run by the statutory city of Karviná and our university.

Next edition of Iinternational Week at SBA will be held in 2021. We are looking forward to seeing you here!
