The graduate from the Bachelor study branch will be fitted with basic theoretical knowledge from a number of social-scientific disciplines, particularly with historical, political-scientific, economic and administration as well as with practical knowledge from the area of communication, consulting, public relation, diplomatic protocol, intercultural management and project management. The graduate will also dispose of a complete set of knowledge of modern history and the present of Central Europe, under consideration of relations to Russia, as well as of the necessary knowledge of local political, legal and administration systems and specific issues of transformation of post-communist countries and their integration in the EU, with focus on the issues of trans-border regions, national minorities and inter-ethnic coexistence. The graduate is able to use actively two foreign languages, work with PC, deal with people and manage conflict situations.
The studies will prepare the graduates
for work in the area of international relations and contacts at local
and regional, but also higher levels in public administration,
non-profit sector and private sphere, for work with national minorities,
for activities in international organizations and associations (e.g.
Euroregions) and for provision of business, cultural, education and
other activities, including preparation and implementation of projects
from EU funds.
The acquired knowledge together with the
communication and intervention skills and habits will allow them
engaging in solution of local and regional problems that usually have
multidisciplinary character. The relatively broad and interdisciplinary
concept of the study contents creates preconditions for high level of
professional adaptability, smooth adaptation of professional orientation
and specialization to practical needs and to work in international
teams, in foreign countries and in frontier and nationally mixed areas.
The graduates from the branch will find
employment as professionals or officers and as lower and middle managers
in territorial and central state administration authorities, as well as
in local and regional territorial self-government authorities, in
public sector organizations and non-profit organizations. They will be
able to coordinate cooperation between institutions and administration
authorities, non-governmental non-profit organizations, local and
central associations; they will find employment in work with minorities,
in planning and implementation of regional development, contacts with
EU, development of cross-border cooperation and business and services in
municipalities and regions. They will find employment in diplomatic
services, in different interest organizations, in national and
supranational industrial, transport and business enterprises and
companies active in Central Europe as well as in different agencies and
consulting companies, but also in immigration police, customs
administration or in centres for migrants and asylum seekers.
The graduate from subsequent Master study branch
will acquire broad knowledge concerning the above stated aspects of
Central European development. The comparative and interdisciplinary
concept of the branch supports development of creative activities of the
students, critical analyses and interpretations of issues of current
Central European or European society, respectively. The acquired
professional skills, mastering of communication and intervention
techniques, research methods, planning and projecting of events, modern
information technologies and work with foreign-language literature
create preconditions for the graduates’ employment in practice, so that
the graduate will acquire professional capability to practise
professions particularly in state institutions active in the region of
Central or Central-Eastern Europe and in regional state institutions
active in the area of cross-border cooperation, or in non-profit
organizations; to be active as specialist on Central or Central-Eastern
Europe in mass media or professional journalism; in national state and
private institutions providing information support to national and
international companies focused on the area of Central or
Central-Eastern Europe; in central structures of supranational companies
active in Central Europe or in tourism centres; in scientific and
scientific-educational institutions (universities, colleges, institutes
of the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic).
The study branch
responds efficiently to regional needs, increasing the connectedness of
study programs and branches within national university education. The
studies result in high professional adaptability of the graduates and in
their employability in practice as well as in acquisition of adequate
knowledge and professional skills to be able to continue studying in the
Doctoral study program.
The graduates from the Doctoral study program
will dispose of knowledge of the development of Central European
countries and of their political, constitutional and social systems with
accent on the period from the end of the 18th century to date. They
will acquire competences, knowledge and skills needed to practise
scientific, research and other independent creative work within the
branch while achieving relatively broad adaptability to occupational
integration. When solving problems, they will be able to implement
historical methods and procedures, applying interdisciplinary approaches
from other social-scientific disciplines, particularly from political
science and sociology. They will be further able to work at the
necessary level with professional literature and references, as well as
with information sources of different character, to analyze, evaluate
and compare problems of historical development at the level of regions,
national states and supranational complexes in context of international
relations. They will also dispose of language competences in two foreign
languages, and thanks to involvement in teaching in the course of the
Doctoral study also of teaching experience. The graduates can find
employment in university or academic centres and in other institutions
focusing on research of historical or other social-scientific character.
They will be also prepared to independent activities in diplomatic
services, at all levels of public administration, in non-profit sector
and in private sphere, particularly in the area of international
relations, cross-border cooperation, European region activities, work
with national minorities, activities in international organizations and
associations, as well as in preparation and implementation of European
Union projects. The graduation from the Doctoral study program may
constitute a base for further qualification growth including
habilitation proceedings and further scientific work in the branch.
