About the Institute

The Institute of Central European Studies of the Faculty of Public Policies of Opava was established in December 2011 by splitting of the Institute of Public Administration and Regional Policy, at which the branch of Central European Studies could be studied at Bachelor and Master level until then. The independence of the Institute was accompanied by addition of the Doctoral study program of Modern History of Central Europe to the current study opportunities, to complete the studies offered to students interested in issues of Central Europe, with regard to its historical, cultural and social development, current internal political situation or status of the region in international relations. Additionally to education of graduates, the Institute employees engage in long-term research of modern Czechoslovak and Czech history, with focus on the issue of political repressions in the 20th century, on migration or on the status of national minorities in Central Europe. The results of the existing research are regularly presented in professional literature and at national and international conferences.
