Origination of the Institute, organizational and personnel development of the Institute

The Institute of Pedagogical and Psychological Sciences of the Faculty of Public Policies of the Silesian University (Ústav pedagogických a psychologických věd Fakulty veřejných politik Slezské univerzity, ÚPPV FVP SU) in Opava was created by division of the Institute of Social Sciences on 17. 2. 2003 into two independent institutes in gestion of the Faculty of Art and Natural Sciences of the Silesian University in Opava. From that time, until the creation of the new faculty, the office of the head of the Institute was held by Doc. PhDr. Bohumil Koukola, CSc. Since 1. 9. 2008, the head of the Institute has been Doc. PhDr. et PaedDr. Kamil Janiš, CSc. The total number of full-time employees of the Institute was 8 and that of external collaborators, 30 in total. In spite of the effort to extend the spectrum of pedagogical activities, the number of pedagogical employees has been continuously decreasing, due to decreasing interest in teacher disciplines; finally, the demand for employees of the Institute was reduced. After the new head of the Institute was appointed, the number of external collaborators was reduced and professionals from other institutes of the Faculty were involved on one hand; on the other hand, the pedagogical team of the Institute was stabilized and the emphasis on their qualification increased. Since its origination, ÚPPV has been strongly focused on increasing the professional qualification of all permanent employees of the Institute. The staff of the Institute was extended by three senior lecturers (doc. Iljuk, doc. Kalnický, doc. Skopalová), increasing the number of senior lecturers to the current 5 (including doc. Koukola and doc. Janiš).
