1.    Where is the study programme accredited?

The application for study programme accreditation was submitted  and judged by the Accreditation Commission simultaneously both in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. The new field of study was recommended by both Commissions, consequently, both ministers of education made the decisions and awarded the accreditation to the universities.

2.    What does joint degree mean?

Joint degree means integrated common studies with a foreign partner; at the end of the studies, the successful student receives a joint diploma according to Art. 47a of Higher Education Act No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended.

Before the submission of the applications for accreditation, the partner schools made an agreement on conditions of implementation of the studies, confirmed by signatures of both universities´ rectors.

3.    What is meant by the term Public Policy and Public Administration in Central Europe?

The aim of the study is to intensify the knowledge of relations and connections within the Central European region as well as within the European Union, and development of practical skills and abilities for employment in the field of public administration, in creation and implementation of public policies. The unifying principle in the individual subjects as well as in the overall structure of the studies is the analysis of specific problems in public administration, public policies and services and their solving within the whole Central European region as well as within individual countries taking into consideration the influence of the neighbouring regions.

4.    What employment may I find after completing my studies?

The graduates will be prepared for independent expert work and for basic leading posts at all levels of public administration, in non-profit sector and private sphere, in particular in implementing and designing a concept of public policies, public administration and development of various forms of international cooperation, especially the border one. Also, they can participate in development of regional activities within the European Union and the Visegrad countries.

5.    What is a study system like?

The teaching during the first and the final semester will take place at the fundamental faculties which have admitted the students to studies and where the studies will be completed by diploma thesis defence and final state examination.

The joint teaching of the students of both schools will take place at the FPA in Košice in the second semester , and vice versa then at the FVP in Opava in the third semester.

6.    What is the study of foreign languages like?

The compulsory language which is suggested in the study plan in the first semester is professional English. It is presupposed the knowledge of English language on intermediate level and passing previous courses of English during a bachelor´s  study programme. The students will participate actively in the seminars in order to improve their ability to use English in common situations as well as in their specialization, in combination of both written and spoken language.

7.    What about accommodation, food and transport?

The conditions of implementation of the studies in Opava are identical with the conditions of other fields of study. In case of outgoing students, it is always the accepting partner institution which takes care of the arrangement of the student´s stay, it helps with accommodation, boarding, organizes various excursions, study stays, trips and free-time activities. The sending organization supports the outgoing students by scholarship which will be granted on the basis of financial agreement.

8.    What will I have to arrange before I go to Slovakia?

Money exchange, buying a ticket, insurance.

9.    Is this programme somehow special?

It is a unique Czech-Slovak programme which is based on the knowledge of regions, border cooperation, but it is heading for the European Union.

10.    What if I am ill and cannot study in Slovakia,  how it will be solved?

It is always possible to reach an agreement according to current situation. The steps that can be applied are standard such as interruption of studies, extension of studies (and participation in the stay in Košice with the following year students). If it is only a short-term illness, it is again upon the particular agreement with the teacher.

11.    Is it possible to choose where the final state examination takes place?

The final state examination takes place at fundamental faculties; the examination committee comprises the teachers from both partner universities.

12.    Is it possible to write a diploma thesis with the supervisor from the other university?

Of course it is possible, it depends only on agreement and approval of the guarantor of the field of study.

13.    Are the study conditions identical at both universities (how many times can the examination be retaken etc.)

Yes, the conditions are completely identical.

14.    What if I do not pass a subject in Slovakia in summer semester, will I have to complete the subject in Slovakia or will it be possible here?

The same study and examination regulations as in case of commonly implemented fields of study is valid. If you fail to complete a subject, you will register for it one more time (“repeated registration”). After an agreement with the Slovak teacher, you will retake the examion in the following academic year.
