The editor of Central European Papers (C.E.P.), international peer reviewed scientific journal, is the Faculty of Public Policies of Silesian University in Opava. The thematic, multidisciplinary orientation of the Journal is primarily based on the profile orientation of the Institute of Central European Studies, as well as also of the Centre of Empirical Research.

The Institute of Central European Studies deals with issues of Central Europe, with regard to its historical-cultural and socio-cultural development, current internal situation or position of the region in international relations. The Institute employees concentrate on research of modern Central European history, with focus on the issues of political repressions in the 20th century, migration or position of national minorities in Central Europe. The Centre of Empirical Research concentrates, within the research space of Central Europe, primarily on social development and social issues from historical and current perspective. The priorities of the Centre include also own research in the area of applied research and methodology of social sciences in narrower and broader context of the Central European region.
