Studies

Recently we offer two study degrees in English: the Master of Computer Science (MSc.) and the Autonomous Systems (Ph.D.) degree. The remaining studies are in Czech.

The aim of the three-year Bachelor‘s degree in Computer Science and Technology is to prepare qualified users and developers across the ICT field. Key topics include computer networking and cybersecurity, ERP and database systems, modern software development tools and techniques, webdesign, knowledge and expert systems, artificial intelligence and more. The graduates assert themselves as team members of ICT companies focusing on development, as well as non-profit subjects and administrative institutions implementing e-government. English and optionally other foreign languages knowledge is provided. The graduates can continue in the Master‘s degree of Computer Science and Technology.

The Master of Computer Science and Technology degree aims at preparation of fully qualified professionals for design, development, use and maintenance of advanced ICT products. Topics include advanced artificial intelligence techniques, robotics and drones, computer graphics, process management, supercomputing and more. The graduates are qualified for R&D team leadership in advanced ICT companies, for the Ph.D. study and for academic positions at universities and research institutes, too. The Institute offers also master studies in information sciences.

The Autonomous Systems Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree prepares top experts in wide scope of advanced computer science topics, selected individually due to the personal study profile of each graduate. Besides base courses including multi-agent systems and artificial intelligence, the students can choose, e.g., from mobile robotics, robot and drone data processing and control, distributed and parallel computing systems, unconventional and bio-inspired computing techniques and others. Foreign experience, grant support and cooperation with world class collaborating universities and institutes.

Research

We focus on (a) Theoretical Computer Science including unconventional and bio-inspired computing (DNA computing, membrane computing - P systems), multi-agent systems and grammar systems; (b) Applied Computer Science: medical image processing, computer vision, robot and drone control and more. We are involved in editorial boards of several scientific journals, in programme committees and organization of many scientific meetings. We organized and chaired, e.g., the world conferences ECAL 2001 (Artificial Intelligence), DNA14 (2008, DNA computing) and CMC15 (2014, Membrane Computing).

Our research staff acts also in the Research Institute IT4Innovations, a partner of the National Supercomputing Center IT4Innovations under the research projects IT4Innovations Center of Excellence and LQ1602 IT4Innovations Excellence in Science. This partnership has allowed to create over 100 research results in the areas mentioned above, listed in the Web of Science, Scopus and RIV.

We collaborate worldwide with colleagues, e.g., at the University of Memphis (USA), University of Economics at Bratislava (Slovakia), Vienna University of Technology (Austria), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain), University of Western Ontario (Canada), Bucharest University (Romania), Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary), University of Turku (Finland) and many others.
