Head of the institute:
PhDr. Jana Haluzíková, PhD.
The Institute of Nursing provides courses offering nursing theory and clinical nursing experience. The course in General Nursing enables students to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for providing direct nursing care. The first half of the training programme lays emphasis on acquiring theoretical knowledge while the other half is geared towards providing hands-on training and gaining practical experience. The coursework is divided into three main areas. The first one focuses on basic disciplines of medicine such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, hygiene, epidemiology, microbiology, immunology, biophysics, radiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, haematology, etc.
The second area includes courses where students acquire knowledge in nursing philosophy and ethics, nursing theory and conceptual models, applied nursing in relation to general medicine and related branches of medicine such as internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology, obstetrics, geriatrics, oncology, etc.
Within the third area, students are taught the basics of social sciences such as sociology, pedagogy, psychology, management, law and health care legislation.
The Institute is equipped with modern technical facilities and training aids. Hands-on nursing training sessions are held in the so-called Simulation Centre which is comprised of several specially equipped seminar rooms and labs, ranking as one of the Czech Republic’s best equipped facilities of its kind.
The academic staff of the Institute of Nursing has established close working relationships with foreign universities – the Netherlands’ Hanze University Groningen, the University of Prešov in Prešov, Slovakia, and Scotland’s Edinburgh Napier University. An integral part of this cooperation is the active involvement of our students which affords them many valuable opportunities to gain expert insight and experience, develop language and communication skills as well as establish new contacts and build lasting friendships.
